Everyone knows how to draw a five-pointed star — it's basically the first shape any of us learned to doodle. Turning that shape into something you can hold is even more satisfying, and this classic origami version does it with just two squares of paper and a tiny bit of tape. There's exactly one fold that might trip you up (a squash fold where you'll want to keep the corner pointy), and once you're past that the rest is smooth sailing. Fold one unit, fold a second arrow-shaped piece, slip them together, tape, and done. Grab two sheets — coordinating colors look best — and let's make the star you've been drawing your whole life, only now you can actually pin it to the wall.

This is a classic 5 pointed origami star that you've probably been drawing your entire life. Besides one slightly tricky fold, it's overall pretty easy to make. You will need two pieces of paper and some tape to make this.

STEP 1. Start with a square sheet of origami paper and rotate it like a diamond, color side up. If you only have regular paper, follow instructions to make a square sheet of paper.

STEP 2. Fold the paper in half by folding top to bottom.

STEP 3. Bring the left edge of the triangle to the top edge.

STEP 4. Turn the paper over.

STEP 5. Fold the triangle in half by bringing the left corner over to the right corner. Your origami should now look like this.

STEP 6. Open the flap and squash down. Try to keep the right corner pointy as you make the crease, and keep the edges aligned at the top.

STEP 7. Get a new sheet of paper and rotate it like this, color side down.

STEP 8. Fold the bottom corner to the top corner, creasing well.

STEP 9. Fold the triangle in half by folding the left corner over to the right.

STEP 10. Rotate the triangle so that it looks like an arrow pointing down.

STEP 11. Bring in the piece you completed earlier and rotate like in the picture, like an arrow pointing up.

STEP 12. Slip the triangle on the left in between the flaps of the arrow.

STEP 13. Tape the two pieces together and there you have it. ★
